Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions firms ask before they start.
Inbox, mandates, deadlines, security: the answers firms look for before they start.
Inbox & beA
Hardly. MAIQ retrieves e-mails, beA and messages from connected authority mailboxes, pre-sorts them, files them to the right matter and turns them into tasks on your dashboard. You only open the inbox when MAIQ needs your decision in unclear cases — and then everything is in one single place.
Yes. beA runs in the background in the same structure as e-mail and other mailboxes, with no separate beA login in daily work. MAIQ takes care of sending, file renaming and the acknowledgement of receipt (eEB); deadlines are updated automatically once the eEB comes back.
New mandates & deadlines
From the inquiry e-mail MAIQ prepares the new-matter flow: data is pre-filled from the documents and other sources, and the conflict check and AML pre-check run live with a few clicks. Where required, power of attorney and fee agreement are created automatically and sent together with the drafted reply after your OK. In short: you review and click “Send” — the matter is created.
Yes. When you enter the parties, MAIQ checks them against your client base. On a hit, the responsible people get a task — the decision stays with you.
MAIQ detects deadlines in incoming items and proposes them for your confirmation. Every change is logged immutably — with person and trigger.
Security & legal
Yes. Client data stays encrypted in your own, separate instance, hosted in Germany (Frankfurt); only AI models with inference in Europe are used; the special duty of confidentiality for professionals under §§ 43e BRAO, 203 StGB is also contractually assured for the entire processing chain. All AI functions run only through professionally compliant routes, with any model such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and open-weight models.
By default all professionals can see all matters of your firm. Individual matters can be walled off from other users / teams (Chinese Wall). This way the firm’s entire knowledge can be drawn on for every task. The actual tasks only reach the people responsible.
No. Training generative foundation models on firm or matter data is contractually excluded. For processing unmasked data, MAIQ exclusively uses appropriately secured enterprise AI services within the designated European infrastructure.
MAIQ uses models from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini) as well as powerful open-weight models. All models run exclusively in data centres in the EU, and every provider involved is bound to professional secrecy under Section 203 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Your data is never used for training. On request, we restrict your firm to open-weight models from European providers.
MAIQ combines contractual and technical safeguards. Every customer contract includes a confidentiality agreement under §§ 43e BRAO, 203(3) StGB, a data processing agreement per Art. 28 GDPR with specific provisions for professional secrets, and a technical annex covering the security measures in use. Microsoft Azure and other sub-processors involved are covered by a corresponding §203-compliant contract structure — the necessary additional agreement has been signed with all of them.
Every legally relevant action requires explicit attorney sign-off through a review interface. Every sign-off is logged with a timestamp, user ID, and document version. MAIQ prepares. The firm reviews and decides.
AI-generated content is clearly labeled. Chat features transparently disclose that the interaction is with an AI system. The relevant transparency obligations are set out in Art. 50 of the EU AI Act; Art. 4 addresses the AI competence required of people working with AI systems. An assessment carried out in January 2026 with the TÜV SÜD AI Risk Navigator found that MAIQ's currently intended use is not classified as a high-risk AI system.
Automation & daily work
Yes, no coding needed. MAIQ already contains standard functions for common cases and we keep adding more. But you can implement any special case in MAIQ easily and quickly: you describe the task, define which functions the agent may use and who may use the assistant — done. Of course you can improve it later — every change is versioned.
Yes. “Ask MAIQ” searches your matters and documents and also answers legal questions — with sources you can click straight through.
Yes. You upload your Word templates and letterhead; MAIQ recognises placeholders automatically and shows you how MAIQ will fill the template. After your approval they are immediately available for use in MAIQ.
Switching & billing
Both work: a fresh start without legacy data is fastest; old matters can be imported. A transition period running in parallel is possible.
Time tracking and billing are core functions of MAIQ that we will provide at market launch. MAIQ will suggest time entries from what happens in the matter and generate invoices.
MAIQ is offered as a subscription per firm and per user. Design-partner firms receive dedicated terms, which we agree on in a personal conversation.
